SPlice

an original ambisonic sound work by Ryan Gamblin
Presented by Reforesters Laboratory, Brooklyn, NY

Four cassette decks, a found VHS, an AI-generated voice over, 500-year-old text, and a barrage of social media are fed into a 24.2 channel ambisonic sound system.

They are re-timed, re-pitched, and re-structured live – converted, arranged, and de-composed to ask: how do we commune across decades through the slippage of recorded memory? What does hyper-modern sound-making through analog tape hiss do to our understanding of media history? What do we trust when we can re-write the present as easily as the past?
